طالب (Taalib, student).

Yes, this word is related to the Afghan movement “Taliban” (طالبان), meaning “religious students” in Pashto (not Arabic). The Arabic plural is

طلاب (Tulaab, students).

Female:

طالبة (Taalaba). (in literary Arabic: Taalabata)
