Word of the day: كتب (kataba, “to write”)

leave a comment »

I realized after yesterday’s post that the whole idea of different words from the root ك ت ب (kaf taa baa) can be taken a few steps further.

Firstly, the word كبت (kataba) means “he wrote”. I think the connection with yesterday’s word كبات (kitaab, book) is obvious. For Hebrew speakers the link to the root כתב (katav, “he wrote”) could be helpful.

Some others:

كاتب (kaatib, writer)

مكتب (maktab, office)

مكتبة (maktaba, library, bookstore)
