Word of the day: ولد (wulida, “to be born”)

leave a comment »

ولد (wulida) means “he was born”. It seems to me that there’s a link to ولد (walad), boy, though as usual I’m not sure.

Examples of use:

ولدت (wulidat) “she was born”

ولدت (wulidtu) “I was born”

To die is مات (maata). In Hebrew “מת” (met) means “dead” – so I guess there’s a common source there somewhere.
